AMR-CNI | AMR-HOME

AMR - Home . The Energy Accounted System

AMR-Home (Automated Meter Reading System for Domestic Consumers) uses ISM-band based Zigbee communication technology for meters data exchange.

As has been depicted in Figure 1 , AMR-Home consists of meters enabled with AMR using RF as communication mechanism. Zigbee protocol is used for gluing the private network formed within the vicinity of a distribution transformer. The meter data readings collected thus is either bridged to the GSM network using a fixed communication node or can be manually collected using a hand-held device which is later transferred to the main server. Similar meter readings are also retrieved from the feeder as well. AMR-Home thus allows completed energy readings to be accounted for. Once the information has been centrally accumulated in the data collection server; it becomes available for use in AMR-Home application software for utilities as well for Utility-ERP. The details of the components of the system are as follows:

AMR-Enabled Meters

AMR-Enabled Meters comprises of standard IEC/ANSI compliant metering device and meter interface unit / communication hardware. It has the capability of logging both billing and interval meter readings. Some of the features are:


	Ability to send pre-scheduled meter readings or
	query on-demand from remote server
	Programmable capability of billing readings transfer
	from server
	Programmable capability of interval data transfer
	Limited parameterization from remote server
	Ability to control power connected with meter if
	equipped with load control module

Meter Data Concentrator

Meters data concentrator is used for retrieval of data from the private network of AMR-enabled meters. It is either in the form of mobile hand-held collector or as a fixed bridge. When used in the form mobile receiver, collected meters data is saved later to the remote server manually. While fixed bridge is totally automated solution it provides more functionality as opposed to the hand-held collector.

AMR-Home Software for utility

The purpose of AMR-Home software apart from facilitating the utility in the benefits of automated reading is to provide a complete energy accounted system in which net energy outflow can be compared to the energy outflows at each nodes and later with subsequent nodes. This same concept has been explained in the accompanying figure:

As has been shown; one of the major analytics that AMR-Home software provides is to graphically account the net energy outflow first from distribution feeder into transformers and later into the end-consumers meters.
